Reply the way the invitation came. If it came by text, text back. If it has a link, use the link. If there is a date to reply by, reply before it. If there is not, reply within a few days. Somebody is waiting on your answer to book a table or buy the food.

If you do not know yet

Say so, and give a day. “I will know by Friday” is an answer the host can plan around. Silence is not. If Friday comes and you still do not know, tell them you cannot make it.
